The main location of the Charlottesville City Warehouse is in the Public Works Complex, better known as the City Yard, at 325 4th Street NW. It’s an approximately 20,000 square foot facility with small shelf and pallet rack storage for about 2,000 items with an average monthly value in the neighborhood of $500,000. The inventory includes remote storage for the utility divisions at the City Yard Annex on Avon Street Extended.
The Warehouse inventories items from general use items to utility fittings, gas meters, water meters, chemicals and pipe. The Warehouse is run by the Warehouse Specialist and the inventory is managed through the use of an automated system.
Surplus Property Sales
The Procurement & Risk Management Division is responsible for, among other things, the disposition of City surplus property. Over the years sales have evolved from one annual auction lasting up to 6 hours into our current effort to reach the widest possible market and ensure taxpayers have the opportunity purchase surplus items. We now have:
- An ONLINE AUCTION: The City is selling surplus property on the internet at Public Surplus. Only public institutions sell their items on Public Surplus. Public Surplus offers FREE access to the public. Items being sold usually include school buses, cars, trucks, parks and utility equipment, bicycles, scooters, various technology equipment, furniture and much more. Surplus property is constantly being posted, so keep checking Public Surplus to see new auctions.
