Be a Part of Our Team
Charlottesville Fire Department includes a team of full-time, professional firefighters as well as support personnel and administrative staff. Our force includes firefighters of varying ages and backgrounds, unified around our core values of Family, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence.
In addition to fire suppression and prevention, we provide emergency response for the City of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia, including various types of calls:
- Hazardous materials
- Public service calls
- Special technical rescue situations
- Vehicle crashes
Our operations teams are assigned to one of three shifts - A, B, or C - and normally work a 56-hour workweek consisting of three 24-hour shifts (7 am to 7 am the following day) every nine days.
Our hiring process occurs around once a year. The hiring process is currently closed. We do not accept applications unless we have an opening and the application period is active.
