Trees at Forest Hills Park

Please be considerate of our parks. Cleaning up after your dog and picking up litter are simple examples of how you can keep our parks suitable for all visitors. Please enjoy them and visit them often.

Park Hours

6:00 am to 9:00 pm

6:00 am to 10:00 pm

Unless attending an activity sponsored by the City’s Parks and Recreation Department or another community event, the hours are 6:00 am to 10:00 pm for the following parks:

6:00 am to 11:00 pm

8:00 am to Dusk

Dogs & Leashes

Dogs shall be kept on a leash and under control on all school grounds, City-owned cemeteries, City parks, including Meadowcreek Golf Course, the pedestrian Downtown Mall between the Ninth Street bridge and Ridge-McIntire Road, and on all side streets between Water Street and Market Street which adjoin the downtown mall. Violation of the City’s leash law is a Class 4 misdemeanor.

Dogs are allowed off-leash inside the fenced off-leash area at Azalea Park and on designated portions of the trails within Riverview Park on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays only. Darden Towe Park also provides a fenced off-leash area located approximately 200 feet east of the picnic shelter at the north end of the upper parking lot.

Dogs are not allowed at Ivy Creek Natural Area or Ragged Mountain Natural Area

Dog feces shall be removed and disposed of in a sanitary manner from:

  • The Albemarle County Court House
  • The Albemarle County Office building
  • All maintained public school property
  • All parks and along city trails
  • The Meadowcreek Golf Course
  • The pedestrian Downtown Mall, including the Pavilion
