Captain Larry Jones

Captain Larry Jones started his career with the Charlottesville Police Department in 2006. He served in Field Operations as a patrol officer and evidence technician until he was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2014. He continued his work there as patrol sergeant on midnight and daylight shift. 

He was promoted to lieutenant in 2019. He then served as the shift commander on midnight and evening shift until his promotion to Captain in 2023. He is also in charge of the department’s Emergency Services Unit (ESU).

Captain Jones is also one of the department’s training instructors in a variety of disciplines, including Defensive Tactics, Mobile Field Force, and Crisis Intervention. He is also a graduate of the National Criminal Justice Command College (2020).

When not working as an officer, he enjoys reading, watching wrestling and MMA, and exercising.
