Mayor Snook Issues Proclamation for Stephen Walton Day
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Assistant Fire Marshal Stephen Walton is honored with a proclamation recognizing his 50 years of service and dedication to the City of Charlottesville.
Stephen Walton joined the City of Charlottesville as a police officer in 1972. Five years later, he joined the Charlottesville Fire Department and served as a firefighter, captain, and a battalion chief. He retired from CFD in 2008, took one day off and returned part-time as the plans reviewer, in which he continues to serve the City of Charlottesville.
Walton is a vital contributor to the CFD Community Risk Reduction bureau. By addressing the health, safety, and well-being of the citizens in the City of Charlottesville, his contributions remain essential to the happiness and well-being of our City.
"To this day, I still enjoy it," Walton told The Daily Progress in June 2021. "You know that what you're doing is making the building safe. You're making it safe for the people who are going to live or work there and you're making it safe for the firefighters. It's great satisfaction being a part of that and helping that building be safer. It doesn't feel like work when you enjoy your job."
To recognize the value and accomplishments of Assistant Fire Marshal Stephen Walton for his 50 years of service and dedication, Mayor Lloyd Snook on behalf of the Charlottesville City Council has proclaimed January 27, 2022 as Stephen Walton Day in Charlottesville, VA. Snook encourages City employees and the community to offer congratulations and celebrate this meaningful milestone.
