Public Safety Agencies Respond to Winter Weather Event
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The City of Charlottesville, County of Albemarle, and the Regional Emergency Communications Center encourage everyone to stay off the roadways.
Our community is experiencing a significant winter weather event. The Regional Emergency Communications Center has received hundreds of telephone calls since snowfall began this morning. There are currently widespread active and pending calls for service for trees down, power lines down, and motor vehicle crashes all throughout our area.
While the snow has stopped falling, regional public safety agencies ask that individuals only call 9-1-1 if there is an active emergency, in order to ensure that people requiring urgent assistance are able to receive help. Community members are also advised to stay off the roadways. There are many blocked roadways, unsafe road conditions, and active clean-up operations.
Further updates will be provided as they become necessary and made available through email and social media.
