[ARCHIVED] TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Flagging on 9th/Avon, Garrett, Levy, Graves, Old Avon. Restrictions on Monticello.

Public utility relocation continues - Garrett Street between 9th/Avon and 6th Street SE, 9th/Avon/Garrett/Levy intersection, Levy Avenue, Graves Street between 9th/Avon and Monticello Road - for the week of December 20th – 23rd. Vehicular traffic will be flagged intermittently at these various locations in the daytime as connection points are unearthed, tested, disinfected and tied-in to activate the new waterline. A sanitary sewer pipe will begin relocation in the coming weeks along the same alignment.

Waterline work will continue from East South Street onto Old Avon Street the week of December 20th – 23rd. Work will be completed with flagging of vehicular traffic in the daytime and no service interruptions are expected.

Monticello Road will be closed in two sections during the daytime - between Graves Street and Old Avon Street December 20th – 23rd and between Levy Avenue and Graves Street December 20th -21st. Travel along Graves Street will be maintained. Elliott, a subcontractor for Dominion Energy, will be finishing pulling new lines through the duct banks to connect to the overhead poles and setting a new transformer. Caton will also be using a crane to remove full sections of the eastern bridge.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project area and access to private parcels will be accommodated.

Construction is being conducted by Caton Construction Group, Inc. for the City of Charlottesville’s Department of Public Works. The pedestrian pushbuttons at the 9th/Avon/Levy/Garrett intersection have been relocated to the large, wooden signal poles (NE, NW and SW corners) and an auxiliary wooden post with metal conduit (SE corner).

Work zone is posted at 25 MPH – please drive carefully with phones down.
