CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The last day in Virginia to register to vote or update your registration for the November 2, 2021 General Election is Tuesday, October 12, 2021. 

  • The Office of Voter Registration and Elections must receive in-person and third party paper registrations by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday to meet the deadline for the upcoming election. 
  • Mailed registrations must be postmarked no later than October 12. 
  • Voters registering online through the Department of Elections' Citizen Portal have until 11:59 p.m. on October 12 to submit their registration application. You must have a Virginia DMV-issued ID in order to complete the registration process online.

Early in-person voting remains ongoing in the Voter Registration Office through October 30, 2021 during regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Mon-Fri with extended hours to 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays and additional hours on Saturdays, Oct 23 and Oct 30 from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The last day to apply for a mail ballot is Friday, October 22.  Any voters who applied for a mail ballot prior to October 1 but have not received their ballot are encouraged to contact the Office of Voter Registration as soon as possible to check their ballot status.  Please contact the office at (434) 970-3250 or vote@charlottesville.gov with any questions or concerns.
