FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 4, 2021
"Mobi on the Mall" Offers Convenient Access to Vaccinations on the Downtown Mall Every Monday Starting August 9.
COVID-19 cases are on the rise in our area and the City of Charlottesville is working with the Blue Ridge Health District (BRHD) to offer its employees and the public an opportunity to receive vaccinations every week at a convenient location on the Downtown Mall in front of City Hall. BRHD's mobile vaccination unit "Mobi" will be parked in front of the Ting Pavilion every Monday* from 1–3 p.m. beginning August 9 for any staff or community member interested in receiving the vaccine. The schedule is currently set for 6 weeks but could be extended if vaccinations at that location are consistent.
Mobi will be administering both Johnson & Johnson (single dose) and Pfizer (double dose) vaccines. Individuals who receive Pfizer will be scheduled for their second dose on the spot (the second dose appointment will either be a return visit to the mobile unit or a special onsite visit at the persons home or office). No identification or insurance is needed to get vaccinated. Minors 12 to 17 years of age must be accompanied by a consenting adult.
Communications staff will also be on hand to record testimonials of anyone interested in providing information about their experience - the media will be used for future public service announcements and a media release will be provided to anyone willing to participate.
*Mobi will be scheduled on Tuesday, September 7 from 1–3 p.m. for the week of the Labor Day holiday
About Mobi
The Mobile Health Unit's current primary mission is to provide COVID-19 vaccines in communities throughout the Blue Ridge Health District. However, it is equipped to offer a number of health resources and services. Ultimately, the unit will function as an extension of a number of our current clinics, offering educational endeavors, immunizations, rapid HIV and Hepatitis C testing, sexual health screenings, and much more. The unit will provide services throughout the entire District - Albemarle, Charlottesville, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson Counties.
Did You Know About the Homebound Program?
BRHD and Charlottesville Fire have teamed up to assist anyone with mobility issues that may have challenges getting to a vaccination venue. Submit a request by sending your name, email, and phone number to brhealthdistrict@gmail.com and you will receive a vaccine shot along with a smoke alarm inspection (with complimentary replacement if necessary).
