[ARCHIVED] TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Streets closed July 10 in area of Market Street Park & Court Square Park

The City of Charlottesville will conduct a removal project for its two Confederate statues on Saturday, July 10, 2021. Preparations around Market Street Park and Court Square Park will begin on Friday, July 9, 2021 and include the installation of protective fencing and the posting of notices identifying No Parking zones.

On Saturday, only the statuary will be removed. Their stone bases will be left in place temporarily and removed at a later date.

As part of this removal project, some local streets in the Charlottesville downtown area will be closed to traffic in accordance with the list and schedule below.

From 12 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 to 11:59 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 (a 24-hour period, all of Saturday), the following streets will be closed to all vehicular traffic and on-street parking:  

  • 1st St. N, from Main St. to East Jefferson St. 
  • 2nd St. NE, from East Market St. to 100’ north of East Jefferson St. 
  • 3rd St. NE, from East Market St. to 100’ north of East Jefferson St.
  • 4th St. NE, from 100’ south of East Jefferson St. to 100’ north of East High St. 
  • 5th St. NE, for 100’ south of East Jefferson St. 
  • East High St., from 3rd St. NE to Park St.
  • East Jefferson St., from 1st St. N to Park St. 
  • East Market St., from 1st St. N to 4th St. NE 
  • West Market St. closed in the east bound direction only between W. High and 2nd St. NW
  • West Market St. closed in closed in both directions from 2nd St. NW to 1st St. N
  • Old Preston, from West Market St. to West Main St.

STREETS RESTRICTED TO LOCAL ACCESS

Beginning at 12 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 to 11:59 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 (a 24-hour period, all of Saturday), other streets will have restricted access and only those living and working in businesses in those immediate areas will have access. The local traffic only streets are shown in Yellow on the map. Residents and business owners/employees who will need to access these points of entry must be prepared to confirm the address of their destination at the entry point.

  • 2nd St. NE, midblock to E. High St.
  • 3rd St. NE, midblock to E. High St.
  • 4th St. NE between E. High St. and Hedge St.
