[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: Prospect Avenue Shooting Suspect Located in North Carolina, Taken Into Custody

Alexander Antonio Rogers has been located in North Carolina and taken into custody, where he is currently waiting extradition to Virginia.

Anyone with information related to open cases should contact the Charlottesville Police Department at (434) 970-3280 or Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000.

CPD will have no futher comment at this time.

On April 13, 2021, at 10:33 p.m., Charlottesville Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the 700 block of Prospect Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located a male with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to UVA Hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.alexander antonio rogers

Warrants have been obtained for Alexander Antonio Rogers, a 32-year-old resident of Albemarle County, charging him with the following:

  1. Malicious Wounding (Va. Code 18.2-51)
  2. Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (Va. Code 18.2-53.1)
  3. Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Va. Code 18.2-308.2)

Rogers should be considered armed and dangerous.  Please call 911 if you see or know of Rogers’ location. Every person is entitled to a presumption of innocence until their guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

This is the 3rd incident involving shots fired in the 700 block of Prospect Avenue in the past week.  On April 7, 2021, CPD officers responded to two separate incidents involving gunfire.   Multiple bullet casings were found at the scenes.  

This marks the 87th confirmed shots fired incident this year.  CPD remains deeply concerned about the escalation of gun violence in the City.  We continue to ask for the community’s assistance in deterring future incidents before further loss of life occurs.

Anyone with information as to Rogers’ whereabouts or information related to open cases is asked to contact the Charlottesville Police Department at (434) 970-3280 or Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000.  A reward of up to $1,000 is available through Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest.
