FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 1, 2021

The Charlottesville Police Department is pleased to debut several user-friendly processes for submitting complaints to the Office of Professional Standards.

A fillable PDF-version of the Citizen Complaint Form has been added to the website, allowing users to submit their complaint directly to the Office of Professional Standards’ Internal Affairs Unit.  The form will automatically be distributed to the complainant, Chief RaShall Brackney, Assistant Chief James Mooney, and the Executive Director of the Police Civilian Review Board (PCRB).

Citizens may also submit complaints by phone, anonymously, to a CPD supervisor at the police department, 606 East Market Street, Charlottesville, Virginia, the PCRB, or our new Internal Affairs email address, internalaffairs@charlottesville.gov. To file a complaint, visit www.charlottesville.gov/police, and click  the “File a Complaint” option, which is located under the "How Do I?" tab.

“Nearly three years ago, as one of our top priorities, we started revamping the Internal Affairs process,” stated Chief Brackney.  “I am hopeful this more accessible option amplifies our commitment to removing barriers or obstacles for the public to voice their concerns, as we strive for transparency, accountability, and holding our officers to the highest standards of “Service Beyond the Call.”
