[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: CPD Announces Arrests of Three Georgia Men Related to Emmet Street Shooting

The Charlottesville Police Department has charged three Georgia residents in relation to the shooting that occurred yesterday, January 4, 2021, in the 1900 block of Emmet Street.

Zavien L. Goines, a 19-year-old resident of Columbus, Georgia, is charged with Robbery (18.2-58), Conspiracy to Commit a Felony (Va. Code 18.2-22), and 2 counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (18.2-53.1).

Carson Evan Dabbs, a 20-year-old resident of Columbus, Georgia, is charged with Robbery (18.2-58), Malicious Wounding (18.2-51), and 2 counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (18.2-53.1).

Jayden Lamar Riley, a 21-year-old resident of Columbus, Georgia, is charged with Robbery (18.2-58), Malicious Wounding (18.2-51), and 2 counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (18.2-53.1).

All three men are being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail pending today’s bond hearing. Every person is entitled to a presumption of innocence until their guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The victim, a 21-year-old resident of Fluvanna County, is currently in stable condition at the University of Virginia Hospital.

The Charlottesville Police Department would like to thank the Albemarle County Police Department and their officers, who quickly apprehended the suspects in this case.

On January 4, 2021, at 1334 hours, Charlottesville Police officers responded to a disorder with a weapon in the 1900 block of Emmet Street North.  

Witnesses reported multiple shots were fired, and the involved individuals fled the scene prior to officers' arrival.  A short time later, the gunshot victim arrived at a local hospital. At this time, the victim is being treated and no additional information is available.

Multiple suspects were detained by the Albemarle County Police Department, and custody was transferred to the Charlottesville Police Department, who continues to investigate the incident.  Arrest and charging details will be released at a later time.  

Officers located multiple bullet casings in the northbound lanes of Emmet Street, which caused a portion of the road between Angus Road and Hydraulic Road to be shut down while Forensic personnel collected these items.  Emmet Street was reopened to traffic about 90 minutes later.
