FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 24, 2020

On Wednesday, December 23, 2020, Charlottesville Police detectives charged Lenny Riccardo Dortch, a 41-year-old resident of Portsmouth, Virginia, with the following offenses in connection to an abduction and rape that occurred on December 17, 2020, in the 700 block of Madison Avenue:

  1. Rape, Virginia State Code 18.2-61.
  2. Abduction with the intent to defile, Virginia State Code 18.2-48.
  3. Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (2 counts), Virginia State Code 18.2-53.1.

Dortch was arrested yesterday in the 600 block of 13th Street NW by the Charlottesville Police Department on a warrant out of Portsmouth related to a probation violation.   The additional charges are the result of countless hours of work over the past six days by the dedicated men and women of the Charlottesville Police Department.  CPD detectives and forensic staff have worked tirelessly throughout this investigation, gathering evidence that led to this arrest.

CPD wishes to extend their gratitude to the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners at the University of Virginia Medical Center, the Charlottesville Office of the Virginia Department of Probation and Parole, the Charlottesville Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and the Virginia Division of Forensic Science, who all worked diligently to assist our department in solving this difficult case.  CPD would also like to thank the residents of Charlottesville and the area businesses who aided in our collection of video surveillance footage, so vital to the investigation.

Dortch is being held without bond at the Albemarle/Charlottesville Regional Jail pending a first appearance in the Charlottesville General District Court at date to be determined.  As with all arrests, the accused is presumed innocent of all charges until proven guilty.
