[ARCHIVED] The Charlottesville Gas Energy Efficiency Program Helps Residents Save Money and Prepare for Winter

Charlottesville

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Charlottesville Gas Energy Efficiency Program Provides No-Cost Home Energy Improvements

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The Charlottesville Department of Utilities continues to provide the community with energy conservation programs that both improve the environment and lower utility bills.  As part of its commitment to the community, Utilities offers the Charlottesville Gas Energy Efficiency Program (CGEEP) to residents. This valuable resource is a partnership with the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP), delivering energy-efficiency upgrades at no-cost to income-qualified homeowners and renters.

“CGEEP is part of our comprehensive plan to provide the community with energy efficiency solutions," said Lauren Hildebrand, the City’s Utilities Director. "We are excited to continue to work with LEAP, and thrilled to help residents reduce energy bills and live more comfortably.”

Taking part in the CGEEP is a great opportunity for residents to prepare their homes for winter, and to save money by lowering their utility bills with a more energy-efficient home. Launched in the summer of 2019, CGEEP has already helped dozens of local residents improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

“I was thrilled to participate in CGEEP," said Charlottesville resident Amy A., a participant in the program’s pilot year. "I purchased my one-level house in Charlottesville almost three years ago, and I very much appreciate the upgrades this program provided.  I believe these upgrades will result in substantial energy savings over the years.  I hope other fellow Charlottesville residents are able to take advantage of this program.  I am so grateful I had the opportunity to participate.”

Qualified residents will work with a LEAP Home Energy Coach who will perform a full energy audit of their home and will select the most appropriate energy-saving measures based upon the need of the resident’s home and potential energy-efficiency improvements.  Residents will benefit from no-cost energy-efficiency upgrades, and from other energy-saving actions that will help not only the resident but also the environment and our community.

CGEEP is available to Charlottesville Gas customers who live in either the City of Charlottesville or  Albemarle County, and to both homeowners and renters alike; renters will need to seek written authorization from their landlord.  CGEEP complements other available energy-efficiency programs by assisting natural gas households that would otherwise be unable to fully benefit from programs that target households powered solely by electricity.

All questions regarding CGEEP, and the application process, should be directed to Ryan Willis. He can be reached by phone at 434-970-3686, or by email at willisr@charlottesville.gov. More information on CGEEP can also be found by visiting www.charlottesville.gov/cgeep.
