Charlottesville

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City Manager has determined City will remain in Phase 2 restrictions

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - As part of Governor Ralph Northam’s “Forward Virginia” plan to safely and gradually ease public health restrictions to help contain the spread of COVID-19, most of the Commonwealth, entered into Phase 3 on July 1, 2020. The Charlottesville City Manager has determined that to ensure the health and safety of staff and the public as we transition, for now, the City government’s facilities and operations will remain under Phase 2 restrictions. Below is a list of Parks & Recreation facilities/amenities that are open/closed as the City remains in Phase 2.

Facilities/Amenities Open

  • All City Parks and Trails (see list of closed amenities)
  • All Playgrounds on City of School Property
  • All Outdoor Basketball Courts (except Washington Park due to court surface maintenance) on City Property
  • Picnic Shelters:  First-Come, First Serve Basis Until Further Notice
  • Charlottesville Skate Park:  Open Daily, 8:00 am – Sunset
  • All Tennis Courts:  Open Play Only, No Reservations
  • Athletic Fields:  Instructional Reservations Only, No Competition
  • Meadowcreek Golf Course
  • Dog Parks
  • City Market:  Drive-Thru Model Only
  • Sugar Hollow Reservoir

Facilities/Amenities Closed (Until Further Notice)

As conditions change, the City will continue to explore the possibilities of re-opening additional facilities and amenities that align with the required safety precautions.  The following remain closed:

  • All Indoor Recreation Centers and Pools
  • Outdoor Swimming Pools
  • Spray Grounds
  • Park Restrooms
  • Downtown Administration Office

We understand these decisions may be disappointing for many residents but we are hopeful that the City will be able to re-open some or all of closed facilities at a later date if public health risks subside.

UPDATE: This release has been updated to reflect that the continued Phase 2 posture refers to City government’s facilities and operations.
