CPD Arrests Wanted Fugitive in Relation to Shooting Investigation


CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – On May 3, 2023, With the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration and members of the Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement Team, a search warrant was executed near the 400 Block of 10th Street NW.


38-year-old, Robert James Wayne of Charlottesville, was taken into custody in connection to a shooting incident that occurred on February 23, 2022, on the 800 block of Hardy Drive. Wayne is charged under the Virginia Code Section with the following crimes:

  • 18.2-51 – Malicious wounding
  • 18.2-56.1(A) – Reckless handling of a firearm
  • 18.2-53.1 – Use of a firearm in commission of a felony, 1st offense
  • 18.2-308.2(A) – Possession of a firearm by felon
  • 18.2-456(6) – Failure to appear
  • 18.2-248 – Possession with intent to manufacture or sell Schedule I, II
  • 18.2-250(A) – Possession of schedule I or II
  • 18.2-308.2(A) – Possession of firearm by felon
  • 18.2-308.4(A) – Possession of firearm with Schedule I or II drug
  • Pursuant to the executed search warrants, the following items were seized:
  • Four firearms, three semi-automatic and one revolver along with seven rifle magazines and assorted ammunition
  • Approximately 5 pounds of marijuana
  • Approximately 156 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately $4600 in U.S. currency
