[ARCHIVED] Portion of West Market Street Closed Following Crash Involving Utility Pole

UPDATE: Market Street has been reopened to traffic.


On May 8, 2020, at approximately 0732 hours, Charlottesville Police Department officers responded for the report of a motor vehicle crash in the 200 block of West Market Street. 

Upon arrival, officers located an SUV that had crashed into a utility pole. The impact of the crash caused the utility pole to break and lean over into the roadway. The driver of the SUV was uninjured and has been charged with reckless driving. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

 West Market Street between 2nd Street NW and East High Street is closed until further notice while utility crews assess the damage and clean up the scene. Drivers are advised to find alternate routes.
