Shots Fired Report: Harris St.


CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – On February 8, 2023, at approximately 12:24 a.m., Charlottesville police officers responded to a disorder call at Wicked Hits located on 930 Harris Street.


The call quickly escalated into a shooting. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene while detectives and evidence technicians responded.  Shortly thereafter, an adult male victim arrived at UVA Medical Center for the treatment of non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

This is an ongoing investigation; anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (434) 977-4000.

UPDATE: 2/10/2023

The Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) has identified and charged a suspect in relation to the shooting that occurred at Wicked Hits on February 8, 2023. Demetrius Andre Brown, 40 of Palmyra, VA has been charged with five criminal charges relating to the shooting. Brown has been charged under the Virginia Code Section with the following crimes:

  • 18.2-280 - Discharging a Firearm within 1,000 feet of school zone
  • 18.2-308.2 – Felon in Poss. Of Firearm
  • 18.2-53.1 – Use of Firearm in Commission of a Felony
  • 18.2-154 – Maliciously shoot at an occupied motor vehicle
  • 18.2-51 – Malicious wounding

Brown's whereabouts are unknown at this time and CPD is asking for the public’s assistance in locating him.

Update: 4/11/2023

On April 11, 2023, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals, forty-year-old Demetrius Andre Brown of Palmyra, Virginia, was taken into custody without incident in Albemarle County on outstanding City warrants.  Brown is charged with the following crimes:

  • 18.2-280 - Discharging a Firearm within 1,000 feet of school zone
  • 18.2-308.2 – Felon in Poss. Of Firearm
  • 18.2-53.1 – Use of Firearm in Commission of a Felony
  • 18.2-154 – Maliciously shoot at an occupied motor vehicle
  • 18.2-51 – Malicious wounding
  • 18.2-102 – Unauthorized use of a vehicle

The bronze, 2003 Nissan Altima used in this incident has not been recovered.
