Shots Fired Report: Monticello Rd.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – On January 8th at approximately 1:40 p.m., Charlottesville police officers responded to the 400 block of Monticello Rd. for a reported shooting.
Once on location, two adult males were found who suffered gunshot wounds. One was transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment; another was pronounced deceased. Multiple individuals have been detained as a result of the investigation. CPD reports that there is no active threat at this time. As detectives and forensics report to the scene, there will be an increased police presence in the area. This is an ongoing investigation and no further details will be released at this time.

On January 8th at approximately 1:40 p.m., Charlottesville Police Officers responded to the 400 block of Monticello Road for a shots fired report. Osvaldo Lopez-Hernandez of Texas suffered at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two individuals have been charged in connection to this incident.
Jose Omar Rivas Sorto of Maryland was arrested at the scene and charged with felony shooting from a vehicle in violation of Virginia Code Section 18.2-286.1. An unidentified male that was with Mr. Lopez-Hernandez was also shot and remains under medical care at the University of Virginia. Warrants have been obtained for this male under the name of John Doe for felony abduction for a pecuniary benefit in violation of Virginia Code Section 18.2-48, use of a firearm during an abduction in violation of Virginia Code Section 18.2-53.1, and misdemeanor brandishing in violation of Virginia Code Section 18.2-282. There is no active threat at his time. This remains an ongoing criminal investigation.
