Public Service Announcement: Holiday Safety Tips

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – As the holiday season approaches, the Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) would like to share some important safety tips with our community.

With the ease and convenience of online shopping today, we expect that many will choose to have packages directly shipped to their residence. Please make sure these packages are delivered when you are at home or have them shipped directly to your local post office for pick-up.

While out shopping, please be mindful of where you place your valuables. All items should be placed in the trunk of your car or out of sight. Thieves look for easy targets when choosing a victim. If goods are visible or in plain sight, the likelihood of them choosing your vehicle is much higher.

Always make sure you lock up before you go. When exiting your home, make sure all doors, windows, and entry points are locked.
Whether you are at home or out shopping, always lock your vehicle.

Lastly, we know that alcohol is often synonymous with the holidays. If you plan to drink, please DO NOT DRIVE; call a friend, loved one, or taxi service to pick you up.

On behalf of our CPD family, we wish you a wonderful holiday season.
