City Safety Preparations for August 11-13, 2022
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - With the anniversary of the violent events of August 2017 approaching, the City of Charlottesville provides the following update regarding the City's safety and emergency preparedness efforts for the weekend of August 11-13, 2022. There are no specific credible threats identified that the Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) is constantly monitoring.
The Charlottesville Police Department is working with Ting Pavilion as they are hosting a Friday’s After Five event on August 12, 2022 to ensure adequate coverage. CPD is maintaining a status of heightened situational awareness and monitoring chatter from intelligence sources to be prepared to increase available coverage Downtown and in parks, which can be activated quickly in response to any pop-up emergencies that might occur. In addition, CPD is having ongoing communications with state and regional partners to be prepared to quickly respond to any incidents that may occur.
At this time, the City of Charlottesville will initiate the following street closure from 6:00pm on August 11, 2022, through 6:30am on Sunday, August 14, 2022:
• Heather Heyer Way (4th St. SE), from East Market St. to East Water St.
Public transit provided by Charlottesville Area Transit will operate on a normal schedule.
