Deputy Michael Thomas joins the Charlottesville Fire Department
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Charlottesville Fire Department welcomes the new Deputy Chief of Community Risk Reduction.
The Charlottesville Fire Department has a new Deputy Chief of Community Risk Reduction (CRR). Deputy Chief Michael L. Thomas has over 30 years of fire/EMS service experience.
CRR focuses less on lights and sirens response and more on community partnerships, public engagement, and strategic decision-making through comprehensive risk assessments.
The section includes accreditation, internal affairs, ISO rating, the Fire Marshal's Office, technology, planning and data analysis, FOIA, and public information.
Chief Thomas' Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Associate Degree in Fire Science, along with 13 years of Fire Marshal's, Fire Inspections, Fire Investigation, and other experiences, will contribute to his success in advancing the department's community risk reduction initiatives.
