CFD appoints new Deputy Chief of Community Risk Reduction
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Charlottesville Fire Department announces the appointment of Michael L. Thomas as the Deputy Chief of Community Risk Reduction.
In June 2022, the Charlottesville Fire Department will appoint Michael L. Thomas as the Deputy Chief of Community Risk Reduction. Mr. Thomas brings over 30 years of related service where he retired from the Lynchburg Fire Department as an Operations Battalion Chief.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and an Associate Degree in Fire Science. Chief Thomas served in the Lynchburg Fire Department’s Fire Marshal’s office for 13 years, attaining the rank of Captain, and served two (2) years as the Acting Fire Marshal.
His credentials include:
- Certified Fire Inspector
- Certified Fire/Arson Investigator
- Hazardous Materials Incident Management
- Certified Law Enforcement Officer
- Code Enforcement
- Fire Officer I & II
- Fire Instructor I & II
- Incident Safety Officer
- Emergency Medical Technician
- Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute (2 years)
He recently worked as a Fire Inspector/Public Educator with the Albemarle County Fire Rescue’s Community Risk & Resilience Section. He stated, “I am happy to join a first-class organization where my knowledge, skills, and abilities can continue to grow to support a community that is home to me here in Charlottesville”.
The Charlottesville Fire Department also is excited to have Deputy Chief Thomas join its executive team as the department continues its journey as a 21st-century all-hazards organization. In June, a press conference will be held to introduce Deputy Chief Thomas to the community and media.
