Flagging on 9th/Avon Street, 9th/Avon/Garrett/Levy Intersection, Levy Avenue, Graves Street, 6th Street SE, East South Street, Monticello Road and Old Avon. Nighttime flagging on 9th/Avon Street and closure of NB left turn lane onto Garrett Street on Tuesday, February 22nd.   Sidewalk Closure on Monticello Road, Graves Street, 6th Street SE and Old Avon Street.  Crosswalk closure on southern leg of  9th/Avon/Garrett/Levy Intersection. 

Public utility relocation continues – 9th/Avon Street, 9th/Avon/Garrett/Levy intersection, Levy Avenue, Graves Street between 9th/Avon and Monticello Road & Monticello Road from Graves Street to Old Avon.  Vehicular traffic will be flagged intermittently at these various locations in the daytime as connection points are unearthed, tested, disinfected and tied-in to activate the new waterline.  Nighttime flagging is expected on 9th/Avon Street and closure of the northbound left turn lane to Garrett Street on Tuesday, February 22nd starting at 9PM.  

Waterline work will continue from East South Street onto 6th Street SE Street.  Work will be completed with flagging of vehicular traffic in the daytime and no service interruptions are expected.  

To accommodate this utility work, segments of sidewalk and crosswalks will also be closed as work progresses down the alignment.  No street will have both sides of the sidewalk closed at the same time.  The eastern sidewalk on 6th Street SE where it terminates at East South Street will be closed a few sidewalk segments earlier.  The southern crosswalk at the 9th/Avon/Garrett/Levy intersection will be closed with pedestrians directed to use the other three crosswalks.  The eastern sidewalk on Monticello Road between Levy Avenue and Graves Street will be closed with the detour route being the western sidewalk.  The southern sidewalk along Graves Street between Monticello Road and Little Graves Street will be closed with the detour route being the northern sidewalk.

The southern sidewalk along Old Avon will be closed between Monticello Road and where it terminates near East South Street.

Monticello Road will be flagged intermittently between Graves Street and Old Avon Street as a temporary wall is erected to prepare for the permanent wall/bridge construction.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project area and access to private parcels will be accommodated.

Construction is being conducted by Caton Construction Group, Inc. for the City of Charlottesville’s Department of Public Works. The pedestrian pushbuttons at the 9th/Avon/Levy/Garrett intersection have been relocated to the large, wooden signal poles (NE, NW and SW corners) and an auxiliary wooden post with metal conduit (SE corner).

Work zone is posted at 25 MPH – please drive carefully with phones down.
