Abs & Assets
There is no such thing as spot training, however, in 45 minutes learn various exercises to sculpt and tone your abs and extra surrounding Assets (Glutes/Hips) for a tighter and leaner you.
Develop a slim, tone, sculpted body with the Barre workout. Exercising to energizing music, this class incorporates upper body, core, and lower body movements to keep your heart rate up and burn calories. By utilizing the large lower body muscles with basic ballet moves and engaging your core throughout the workout, you are sure to get a beautiful sculpted body. So, take your shoes off and join us at the Barre.
Cardio Lite is a low impact dance aerobics class that combines great music and easy to follow dance moves to help burn calories and gain cardiovascular endurance. Come laugh, smile, and dance at your own pace!
Cardio Hip Hop is a dance-based cardio class designed to get you moving to a variety of hip hop songs. In this class you will sweat out your stress with fun hip hop moves. You’ll use dance to strengthen and sculpt your body all while having lots of fun!
Cardio kickboxing is a group fitness class that combines martial arts techniques with fast-paced cardio. This high-energy workout challenges the beginner and elite athlete alike. Build stamina, improve coordination and flexibility, and burn calories as you build lean muscle with this fun and challenging workout.
With roots in Chinese medicine, philosophy, and martial arts, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance qi (chi), translated as "life energy". ... Qigong practice typically involves moving meditation, coordinating slow flowing movement, deep rhythmic breathing, and calm meditative state of mind.
Core and Stretch
A quick 30 minute strength and balance workout which targets the abs, obliques, back, butt, and thighs. The class ends with a 10-15 minute deep stretch. This is the perfect class for those who feel the ache from sitting at a desk all day.
This class is a great cardiovascular workout. Pedal through hill climbs, sprints, and many other challenging drills and exercises. All levels are welcome.
This total body workout starts with 30 minutes of cycling, followed by 30 minutes of strength training for the upper body and core using a variety of tools, and ends with 10 minutes of flexibility training on the mat. New to cycling? This class is a great way to try cycling in smaller doses!
Flow Yoga is an alignment based ashtanga style class with a strong emphasis on teaching students at all levels.
Gentle Stretch & Relax
This class incorporates basic yoga poses, stretches, deep breathing and relaxation practices that are accessible to all ages & abilities. This class is especially suitable for those who find open yoga classes too demanding, or just want a very gentle practice.
Gentle yoga is a calming class, including flowing movement, classical hatha and restorative poses. This is a perfect class for beginners, those with limited flexibility or as a relaxing practice at the end of the day.
This is a one hour drop in group exercise class offered through Charlottesville Parks & Recreation. This class is beginner friendly but will require you to explore your alter ego while learning an intense dance fitness routine. This class is not designed to be perfect but is designed to empower you to push yourself to the next level. As humans we naturally have flaws. So come as you are and do not be afraid to mess up. Messing up is a part of the human experience. Queens and Kings bring your flaws and all that is with in you. Learning lessons from our flaws is necessary for human growth. Whether you are happy, hurt, mad, or sad this class is a safe space to heal and grow. We will be dancing to Beyonce, Cardi, City Girls, and many more artist.
The High Intensity Interval Training (HiiT) portion of our classes is designed to sculpt every part of your body, as well as increase stamina and improve strength. Think exercises using your own body weight: push-ups, planks, etc. Bonus: HiiT helps release MAJOR endorphins.
Line Dance Fitness
Line Dance Fitness is a dance class for adults to improve flexibility, balance, and agility and muscle tone. You’ll learn fun combinations and choreography set to a variety of music genre’s that will exercise your body and mind.
A Hatha yoga class focusing on postures (asana) and conscious breathing (pranayama) to develop strength, flexibility, balance and relaxation. Individualized adjustments and props provide a class open to all levels and abilities.
Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. Pilates moves tend to target the core, although the exercises work other areas of your body as well.
This is a full body workout that involves cardio to increase the heart rate, and resistance training to sculpt the arms, butt, and core. It is an intense workout to start your day out right and have you leave class feeling great!
She SLAY is a one hour drop in group exercise class offered through Charlottesville Parks and Recreation. This class is for the perfectionist. This class is geared towards the advanced participants who have mastered H.E.R Flaws and All. The goal of this dance fitness class is more intense and more advanced choreography. This class if for those participants who are ready to take their fitness journey to the next level. SHE SLAY is a flawless dance fitness class that acknowledges participants growth on their life journey. This class will incorporate dance choreography inspired from Aliyah Janelle. This class is especially for those who feel comfortable in heels and anyone that feels comfortable doing splits, flips, rolls, and jumps.
Spin & Sculpt
Fast paced, high energy, always popular fun class! Utilizing various equipment, body weight exercises, and the Spin Bike. Shawn started this class over 18 years ago in Florida now sharing it in Central Virginia and DC areas in the last 8 years. Great way to mix up your routine!
Step it Up
A full body cardio workout using the step to get the heart rate thumping and target the muscles in the butt and thighs.
This class blends yoga poses with the practice of the Alexander Technique. We stretch, tone, and play. Let go of habitual tension to unfold and move with more ease and pleasure. Some hands-on guidance is offered.
Timed Interval training designed to promote a maximum workout in short periods of time incorporating rest times for ultimate fat and calories burning.
It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai chi, also called tai chi chuan, is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion.
Developed in the Navy SEALs, suspension training allows you to use your own bodyweight to develop strength, balance, flexibility, and core stability at the same time. Restorative yoga is a practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. The majority of yoga classes are an active practice in which you move from pose to pose, building heat and increasing your strength and flexibility in equal measure.
The Weekend Warrior Class uses weights, cardio, and intense circuits to help take your fitness to the next level! So come join Weekend Warriors, and leave the couch potato behind!
Yoga for All
A yoga class suited to all levels of practice for those who are in reasonably good health. We will offer variations on poses to accommodate everyone’s level of fitness & flexibility. The class aims to be varied and fun without being competitive. Each class will include movement, stretching, asana (poses), meditation or mindfulness and deep relaxation.
Yoga for Older Adults
A great introduction class for first time students or those looking for a gently paced class with detailed instructions. Students will learn a variety of poses, breathing exercises, meditation, and relaxation techniques. This class will move each student at their own pace deeper into their very own yoga practice.
Yoga Nidra, or “yogic sleep,” is a comprehensive practice that goes far beyond deep relaxation to a place of natural peace and quiet. It is tremendously healing for body, mind, and spirit. This class is appropriate for students over 13, but especially beneficial to seniors, those recovering from surgery or injury, and anyone who suffers from anxiety or depression. Yoga Nidra practice offers students an effective tool to combat the stress of daily life. The class will be conducted with students lying on the floor.
A Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class incorporating Latin and International music and dance movements, to create a dynamic and effective fitness system. The class format combines fast and slow rhythms to tone and sculpt the body to achieve a uniquely blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits. Dancers and non-dancers alike immediately and easily master Zumba! Zumba creates a party-like atmosphere providing a non-intimidating opportunity to participate in group exercise classes. It’s fun! It’s different! It’s easy! It’s effective! Ditch the workout, join the party!
30 4 30
This fast moving class is 30 seconds or 30 reps of various interval cardio and weighted workouts that get the heart racing and the body sweating! This is the perfect workout for the adult on a tight schedule. As this class is only 30 minutes long.
Aquatic Group Fitness Classes at Crow Recreation Center
Shallow-aqua aerobics emphasizing cardiovascular conditioning and strengthening using water resistance. Swimming proficiency is not required.
Shallow-aqua aerobics promoting aerobic fitness, strength and flexibility using water-resistant exercises. Swimming proficiency is not required.
Off the Deep End
Deep-water aerobics featuring buoyancy/resistance equipment designed to increase flexibility, strength, endurance, aerobic conditioning, balance and motor coordination in a non-impact environment. Swimming proficiency is advised. NOTE to new class members: Please arrive early on your first visit for proper fitting of equipment.
H2O Power Hour
An excellent water workout that goes to the limit! A fun, energizing hour of calorie-burning, high-intensity and low-impact H2O aerobics, featuring stretching, burst movements and water-based kickboxing movements. A great way to stay\get in shape. Come give it a try.
Deep-Water Aqua Blast
A moderate- to high-intensity water workout, utilizing intervals of high-energy aerobic movements, mixed with light to moderate movements involving cardio, toning and stretching.
Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Exercise
This is an easy stretching exercise program that follows the Arthritis Society Foundation program. The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 – 10:45 am. Please call the Charlottesville Parks & Recreation Senior division at (434) 970-3261 for more information.
Aerobic water workouts incorporate a variety of rhythmic body movements and dance steps performed in the water. Programs vary from basic to advanced classes. In beginning programs, the participant learns to combine arm and leg movement in varying combinations. As water aerobic programs become more advanced, they incorporate more intricate dance and calisthenics movements.
The main purpose of water aerobics is to improve cardiovascular conditioning. Because of the water’s resistance, water exercise also can improve your strength and flexibility, leading to better muscular endurance and balance.

For Group Fitness Class participants under the age of 18:
- Minors 15 to 17 years old must have their parent/guardian sign a waiver form at the front desk to participate in any group fitness classes.
- Minors 13 to 14 years old may participate in a group fitness class (not involving weights) with a signed waiver and accompanied/supervised by their parent or guardian who is also taking the class. If the class involves weights, the minimum age to participate is 15 years old.
- Minors 12 years and under are prohibited from participating in any group fitness class. Please review the Parks and Recreation Program Guide for age-appropriate fitness programs for youth 12 and under.
