The Team consists of sworn officers ranging from the rank of officer to lieutenant. Prospective members must have a minimum of two years of law enforcement experience and be off probation. Crisis Negotiators receive a minimum of forty hours of specialized training which consists of, but is not limited to, communication, de-escalation, conversational speaking, active listening, etc. Crisis Negotiators may be required to endure extended periods of time dealing with crisis management, utilizing verbal dialogue. The Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) works closely with the department’s Special Response Team (SRT). This relationship is vital for successfully mitigating critical incidents.
Special Response Team
Designated officers, including those in a multijurisdictional team, who are specifically trained and equipped to resolve critical incidents that are so hazardous, complex, or unusual that they may exceed the capabilities of first responders or investigators. This includes, but is not limited to, hostage taking, barricaded suspects, snipers, terrorist acts and other high-risk incidents. As a matter of department policy, the SRT team may also be used to serve high-risk warrants, both search and arrest, where public and officer-safety issues necessitate such use.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems Team
An unmanned aircraft of any type that is capable of sustaining directed flight, whether preprogrammed or remotely controlled (commonly referred to as an unmanned aircraft vehicle (UAV)), and all of the supporting or attached systems designed for gathering information through imaging, recording or any other means.
Peer Support Team
Provides support services in order to uplift the morale and wellness of our officers and staff. This team was created by the principles set forth in Obama's 21st Century Police Report, which placed an important emphasis on police wellness.
