CPD Arrests Suspects in Two Separate Gun-related Cases
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – On June 23, 2023, the Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) made arrests connected to two separate, gun-related incidents.
On June 23, 2023 at approximately 12:50 p.m., CPD responded to a disorder involving a firearm near the area Ting Pavilion on the Downtown Mall. As a result of the investigation, Brian Edward Henderson, a 46-year-old Charlottesville resident, was arrested and charged with the following criminal charges
Concealed Weapon in Violation of Virginia Criminal Code - 18.2-308
Brandishing a Firearm in Violation of Virginia Criminal Code - 18.2-28
The firearm involved was recovered at the scene. Henderson was released on bond from the Albemarle County Regional Jail.

Separately, CPD also arrested and charged Shyketa Tatyana Dodson, a 28-year-old Charlottesville resident, in relation to a shots fired incident that occurred in the 900 block of Charlton Ave on June 16, 2023. Dodson was charged with the following criminal charges:
Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony in Violation of Virginia Criminal Code – 18.2-53.1 (Felony)
Shooting within 1,000 feet of School in Violation of Virginia Criminal Code – 18.2-280 (Felony)
Possession of a Firearm while Subject to a Protective Order in Violation of Virginia Criminal Code – 18.2-308.1:4 (Misdemeanor)
Vandalism with Less than $1,000 in Damage in Violation of Virginia Criminal Code – 18.2-137 (Misdemeanor)
Reckless Handling of a Firearm in Violation of Virginia Criminal Code – 18.2-56.1 (Misdemeanor)

She is currently being held without bond at the Albemarle County Regional Jail.
