Volunteers in a park

Whether you are an individual, business, civic or social organization, you can help Charlottesville Parks & Recreation maintain our lovely city with your generous donation of time!

Currently, we are focusing on volunteer efforts to help remove invasive plant species and vines from our urban forests, parks, and schools. We also have projects improving trails and cleaning upstreams.

We support scouting organizations and other groups who provide programs for youth to participate in community service projects, such as building park benches and small trail bridges.

Meadowcreek Golf Course and Senior Recreation programs are also in need of volunteers that can provide weekly time commitments.

Volunteers are valued partners in the Parks and Recreation Department!  No experience is necessary for many tasks. All tools, work gloves, and supplies are provided.

Lovingly landscaped by volunteers

Adopt-A-SpotThis program recognizes the desire that many citizens share for city beautification, especially in their own neighborhoods and school grounds. Perhaps there is a small piece of Charlottesville property in your neighborhood that you would like to see improved.

Currently, we have a wide array of "spots" that adopters care for — from flower beds and annual planters on school grounds to neighborhood entrance corridors and traffic calming landscape beds. We also have some "spots" that are currently up for adoption!

If you are interested in adopting one of these areas or for additional information regarding the program, please call our Landscape Manager at (434) 970-3586 or  email parkvolunteers@charlottesville.gov.
