Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan
Passed by City Council on September 18, the 2015 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan is the vision and guiding document for bicycle, pedestrian, and multi-use trail connections in the City.
Streets That Work
In September 2016, City Council adopted the Streets That Work Plan as part of the City of Charlottesville’s Comprehensive Plan. The purpose of the Streets That Work Plan is to provide a fully functional, comprehensive, multi-modal street design guide for Charlottesville that seeks to improve the transportation network for all modes and create vibrant and sustainable public spaces along streets.

Strategic Investment Area
The Strategic Investment Area (also referred to as the "SIA") is an approximately 330 acre area south and east of downtown, including portions of the Ridge Street, Belmont Carlton, North Downtown, Martha Jefferson and Fifeville neighborhoods. This target area was identified by the City as a potential "growth" area due to its low density and available land areas, and its location as a gateway to Downtown, including pedestrian connections to the Downtown Mall area.
West Main Study
West Main Street is a vital urban street, a locally designated historic district, and an important connection between the University of Virginia and Downtown Charlottesville, and to the surrounding neighborhoods. In March 2016, City Council approved both zoning ordinance modifications and a conceptual design plan option for West Main Street (Option 1). Since that time, the project team has been working with City staff to develop more detailed design plans, meeting with the community and the Board of Architectural Review, and creating a schematic design plan set, which was approved by City Council on May 15, 2017.
