The City of Charlottesville Downtown Job Center, located at 201 East Market Street in the Lower Level of the Jefferson Madison Regional Library, is your resource for employment services. Whether you're a job seeker looking for assistance with job searches or resume writing, or an employer needing targeted recruitment strategies or access to workforce programs, the Downtown Job Center is the place for you! The Downtown Job Center is closed between the hours of 12:00pm and 1:00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The Center is also closed occasionally for staff meetings, training, and other workforce obligations. For an up-to-date calendar of hours that is updated each Monday and as otherwise needed, please refer the Google Calendar below. For the best view, click the "Week" tab in the top right corner of the calendar.

Please note that in order to receive services at the Downtown Job Center you will need to complete an intake form on the computer.  This simple form is a way of signing in and providing staff with some needed information about you and the type of assistance you need.  Due to the time needed to complete an intake form and for staff to assist you, please allow a minimum of 30 minutes for your visit.  Because of this, no intakes will be started within 30 minutes of the close of business.

 

GO DRIVER TRAINING PROGRAM

The Growing Opportunity (GO) Driver Program is a seven-week training program that prepares City residents for a career as a bus driver with Char-lottesville Area Transit (CAT) and Charlottesville City Schools Pupil Transportation. The program, entirely free for eligible participants, is a partnership among the City’s Office of Economic Development, CAT, and City Schools to offer training that will equip residents with a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Passenger Safety & Service Certification, a Virginia Career Readiness Certificate, and customer service and workplace essential skills. Classes will be held from 8:00am to 2:00pm for seven weeks at Piedmont Virginia Community College. After successful completion of this program, participants will have the opportunity to be considered for employment with CAT and with Charlottesville City Schools Pupil Transportation as a Relief Bus Operator. Participants will receive their permanent CDL through the program and then will receive on-the-job training to obtain their school bus endorsement.
