Special Programs
The CRHA has many special programs to assist low and moderate-income households purchase homes by helping pay downpayment and closing costs. We assist low-income families in becoming homeowners by providing a loan to make up the difference in what family's income qualifies them to purchase and the sale price. CRHA administers 300 Housing Choice Voucher rental units through leased housing contracts with private owners. All private owner properties must meet the required Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections. Housing Choice Voucher refers to a part of the Housing Act which created this program. Approximately 2,000 individuals are housed through these subsidy programs in which participants typically pay approximately 30% of their income for rent and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) pays the rest. CRHA is a partner with the Charlottesville Department of Social Services to provide housing assistance to welfare-to-work clients under the Welfare-To-Work Housing Choice Voucher-Resident-Based assistance Program.
