Voter Registration Available at Monticello 4th of July Celebration

The Charlottesville and Albemarle Voter Registration Offices, in cooperation with the Charlottesville-Albemarle League of Women Voters, will conduct a voter registration drive at Monticello on Saturday, July 4 from 7 AM until Noon. Look for the tent with the “Voter Registration” banner. Voter registration applications may be submitted by residents of any Virginia locality. National forms will be available for residents of other states.

To be eligible to register to vote in Virginia a person must:
  • Be a resident of Virginia (a person who has come to Virginia for temporary purposes and intends to return to another state is not considered a resident for voting purposes).

  • Be a U. S. Citizen.

  • Be 18 years old by the next general election (Nov. 3, 2015).

  • Not be registered and plan to vote in another state.

  • Not be currently declared mentally incompetent by a court of law.

  • If convicted of a felony, voting rights must have been restored.

Voters must be registered at their current residential address. If you move, you must change your registration address to remain eligible to vote. Electoral Board Meetings:

  • Monday, July 13 at 12pm - Voter Registration Office, Room 142, City Hall Annex

Voters must present one of the following forms of identification when voting in person:

  • Valid Virginia driver’s license or DMV-issued photo identification card
  • Valid Virginia DMV-issued Veteran’s ID card
  • Valid U.S. Passport
  • Employee photo identification card issued by employer in the ordinary course of business
  • Other government-issued photo ID card (issued by the U.S. Government, the Commonwealth of Virginia, or a political subdivision of the Commonwealth)
  • Virginia College or university student photo ID card
  • Virginia Voter Photo ID card issued by any local general registrar’s office

If you don’t have one of these forms of identification please visit your local voter registration office for a free Voter ID card.

Need to Register?

In order to vote in Virginia, you must be registered. The deadline to register to vote is 21 days before most elections. The deadline to register for the November 3, 2015 election is Tuesday, October 13. Already Registered but Moved or Changed Your Name?

If you are already registered but have moved or changed your name you need to update your registration. The deadline to update your registration is the same as that for registering to vote.
