Minority-Owned Businesses Encouraged to Certify

VA Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity certification increases contracting opportunities for minority-owned, women-owned and other certified businesses

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The City of Charlottesville’s Office of Economic Development and the Procurement and Risk Management Division are collaborating with the Minority Business Task Force to identify minority-owned businesses not already included on the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity’s list of certified businesses in Planning District Ten (Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson) to increase their contacting opportunities with the City.

The City seeks to identify minority-owned businesses that may be eligible to participate in the City’s Minority Business Program. The program includes Small, Women-Owned and Minority-Owned businesses and Micro businesses (SWaM-O) and Service Disabled Veterans (VBE), and Employment Service Organization (ESO).

The listing of certified minority-owned businesses is available on the City’s website atwww.charlottesville.org/MinorityBusinessProgram.

The Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (SBSD) is the certifying agency that verifies and grants certification for minority-owned businesses. Certification allows businesses to be recognized and provides greater opportunity for contracting opportunities with the City and other procurement departments in the Charlottesville area.

The goal of this outreach initiative is to identify businesses in Charlottesville and Planning District Ten that may already be certified or may qualify for certification but are not currently showing on SBSD’s certified listing for this area as identified by associated zip codes.

The City requests that businesses not already on the listing explore certification and provide additional information about their business for potential future inclusion on the listing.

Businesses not on the list that would like to become SWaM certified and a vendor for the City, may use the links below
